About
Erasmo Fuentes de Hoyos (Monterrey, 1943) is a Mexican-born figurative sculptor whose work blends technical mastery, spiritual depth, and a profound cultural connection. Raised in Saltillo, Coahuila, he began modeling in his father’s taxidermy workshop before studying sculpture at Brigham Young University in Utah. Working primarily in bronze, Fuentes captures scenes of faith, memory, and everyday life with realism and emotional resonance. For him, sculpture is a way to honor the human experience and preserve its stories in lasting form.
After years running a wood pallet business in Saltillo with his wife, Erasmo Fuentes committed fully to art in 1984. That same year, he was commissioned to create a 5.5-meter monument celebrating Saltillo’s 400th anniversary—now considered the city’s most iconic sculpture. His works have appeared in museums, public spaces, and religious institutions across Mexico and the United States, including the Springville Art Museum and the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah. Currently based in Mapleton, Utah, Fuentes continues to sculpt with a quiet devotion to form, memory, and meaning.
